Renowned physicist Dr Harun-ar-Rashid passes away

An eminent physicist, who was also the "Bose Professor" of Physics at the University of Dhaka, Dr AM Harun-ar-Rashid, died at an institution in Dhaka on the weekend. He was 88 when he died. death.

Dr. Rashid who was suffering from various issues of old age passed away as he was receiving treatment in the hospital.

Premier Sheikh Hasina expressed shock over the passing of the renowned physical scientist.

In a message of condolence the Prime Minister stated Harun-ar Rashid was more than an physicist, but also a devoted soul working in scientific research.

She spoke of Dr. Rashid's remarkable contribution to physics education, particularly in the field of teaching Physics in Bengali in addition to his ongoing research.

Sheikh Hasina claimed that his death caused an enormous gap in the research and education in science as well as research within the nation.

The Prime Minister prayed for salvation of the soul that has passed away and expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the family members who have lost a loved one.

Dr. Rashid was Director of the Computer Center (now the Institute of Information Technology) at the University of Dhaka.

He was an invited Professor in The Institute fur Theoretische Kernphysik, International Center for Theoretical Physics, Imperial College London, University of Texas, Austin as well as the University of California, Los Angeles.

He was awarded an award called the Ekushey Padak in education in 1991 as well as The Independence Award in 1999.
